Modernizing Azerbaijan’s food industry through German technology and closer business cooperation was the focus of the German–Azerbaijani Business Conference on Food Processing and Packaging Machinery, organized by AHK Azerbaijan on 27 October 2026. The event brought together Azerbaijani manufacturers and eight German technology providers to explore solutions for more efficient, competitive production.
Nargis Wieck, Executive Director of AHK Azerbaijan, highlighted the contribution of domestic food processing to economic diversification and greater value creation. She emphasized that German expertise offers long-term support throughout the equipment lifecycle, helping manufacturers improve productivity and product quality. Investment decisions, she noted, should consider overall operating costs alongside the initial purchase price.
Therese Lünnemann, Deputy Head of the German Diplomatic Mission in Azerbaijan, stressed the importance of translating stronger bilateral relations into practical business cooperation. She highlighted the potential of the food processing and packaging sector and expressed hope that the Azerbaijan-Germany Business Council would hold its first meeting soon.
Mikayil Aliyev, Head of the Investment Department at the Azerbaijan Business Development Fund (ABIF), outlined the Fund’s support for projects using German equipment, including malt processing, soft drink production and packaging film manufacturing. He explained how its financing mechanisms support industrial development, attract foreign investment and strengthen competitive local production.
The participating German companies were Bühler GmbH, Elea Technology GmbH, HAVER & BOECKER OHG, KRONEN GmbH, Langguth GmbH, Peter Binder GmbH, Plattenhardt + Wirth GmbH, and SOMIC Verpackungsmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG. Their presentations covered technologies ranging from food processing to automated packaging and specialized storage solutions.
Individual B2B meetings brought these discussions into focus, giving leading Azerbaijani food industry companies the opportunity to discuss their production requirements directly with German providers. The meetings explored potential technology partnerships and new business opportunities to support the modernization of local manufacturing.
The conference formed part of the 26-29 October 2026 business delegation visit, implemented by COMMIT Project Partners GmbH in cooperation with AHK Azerbaijan and the German Eastern Business Association. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) under its Market Entry Program, the initiative supports German SMEs in developing commercial partnerships in Azerbaijan.
