George Russell takes pole in Baku

Qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has come to an end. Mercedes driver George Russell set the fastest time of the session to secure pole position.

Charles Leclerc will start from second, with Oscar Piastri taking third on the grid.

Interestingly, Baku City Circuit has proved to be a strong track for Russell this year. The British driver also set the fastest time in two free practice sessions.

Russell’s Mercedes team-mate and one of the leading drivers of the season, Kimi Antonelli, was forced to retire from qualifying early. The Mercedes driver hit the wall at Turn 1 during the opening qualifying session. The impact damaged his car, preventing Antonelli from continuing.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix takes place tomorrow, with the drivers set for another intense battle around the streets of Baku.
